Baliati Zamindar Bari
The location of Baliati Zamindar Bari is in Baliati village, Saturia Upazila, Manikganj district, approximately 35 km from Dhaka district. The palace is built on a beautiful and vast 16,000-square-meter plot of land. The palace’s backside has a pond with four ghats. It is one of the finest examples of 19th-century renaissance colonial monuments in Bangladesh. Govinda Ram Shaha, a salt merchant, founded the Baliati Zamindar and constructed the Complex (Bari). The Bangladesh Archeological Department indicted this remarkable edifice in 1987. And they granted the new designation “Baliati Palace” as a protected cultural heritage.
The zamindars of Baliati made an important contribution to the history of antiquities in the Manikganj area. From the first half of the nineteenth century through the first half of the twentieth century, the zamindars of Baliati left a legacy that greatly enhanced the district’s antiquities. Vrindavan Chandra Roy Chowdhury and Jagannath Roy Chowdhury, the two sons of Pathan Bari zamindar Nityananda Roy Chowdhury, disseminated the name of Baliati across the nation and overseas.
The Baliati zamindar Bari is composed of seven buildings. Baliati zamindar Bari’s structures were not all constructed at the same time. In various eras, the different successors of the Baliati zamindar family erected these structures. Currently, the Bangladesh Archaeological Department uses the central block as a museum.
