Shashi Lodge

Suryakanta Acharya Chowdhury, the successor of the Muktagacha Zamindar dynasty. He built a beautiful two-story residence in Mymensingh named Shashi Lodge after his adopted son Shoshikanta. Suryakanta Acharya Chowdhury decorated this spectacular building with many sorts of decorative things gathered from various locations around Paris and Europe. The great earthquake of 1897 AD destroyed this original location. Shoshikanta then restored the palace in one story between 1905 and 1911.

It is a vast space, roughly nine acres in size, and is reached by an enormous semi-circular arched doorway. You can see a long grassy lawn between the palace and the entrance with an ornate marble fountain featuring a lovely classical statue. On the west side of the center structure, you can see an ancient pond. A two-story marble stone bathing pavilion is located in the middle of the pond from the north corner. When you enter the palace through the central entrance, you will find a foyer that leads into a spacious hall with a timber floor that was previously used as a ballroom. Colorful glasses was used to adorn the doors and windows.

When the government established Women Teachers Training College at Shashi Lodge in 1952, officials used the main building of the house as the principal’s office and office.
